Thermal Imaging Device for Dismounted Use at Medium Ranges
The Bundeswehr has ordered 368 IRV 900 A2 systems from Hensoldt, with an option for a further 34 attachments, the company announced on 9 March. The thermal imaging devices are destined for dismounted use at medium ranges. The system is a modified version of the IRV 900 A1 infrared attachment.
The new IRV 900 A2 can be used either as a clip-on system with 1x magnification or as a stand-alone target lens with digital zoom. A colour monitor allows for easier target reconnaissance with false colour display. The uncooled infrared attachment is noiseless and ready for use within 5 seconds.
It is further distinguished by the fact that it can be used on assault rifles, light and medium machine guns, multi-purpose machine guns and designated marksmen rifles. Furthermore, it can be – and is intended to be – used with the fire control sight on the shoulder-launched RGW 90 LRMP multi-purpose weapon.
