300 Systems the Largest Such Order for 30+ Years
As it continues to set up NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), the Bundeswehr has turned to HENSOLDT to supply high-precision boresight telescopes.
The BAAINBw procurement agency has ordered 300 devices for the LEOPARD 2 main battle tank and Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer. In addition to the telescopes, the order includes transport and storage containers. Current planning calls for the first batch of 30 units to be delivered to the Bundeswehr via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) 3Q/2020, thereafter deliveries to me made initially at 10/month then ramping up to 15/month. Completion of delivery is scheduled for 2023, after which HENSOLDT will remain the supplier for spare parts and be responsible for service.
“This order is the largest single order for boresight equipment for us since the 1980s. The fact that the tender process went so smoothly despite the Coronarelated delays is due to the close coordination and excellent cooperation with the BAAINBw,” commented Product Manager Nico Lubold.
HENSOLDT’s boresights are used to adjust and maintain the targeting systems of barrel-based weapon systems. They are characterised by fast, simple and reliable handling, as well as their high adjustment accuracy and durability. An experienced user therefore only needs a few minutes to check the precision of his weapon system and adjust it if necessary. Thanks to calibre rods – special weapon barrel adapters – the universal adjustment optics cover almost all weapon systems in current use, from assault rifles to howitzers. Thanks to a modular design, costs and weights are kept as low as possible and allow tailor-made solutions to be crafted for every application. In addition, a high degree of system commonality eliminates the need for lengthy training sessions on different types of equipment.
