Increased Efficiency and Effectiveness from AI-based Functionality
Britannica Knowledge Systems (BKS) and Aptima are collaborating in the exploitation of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve training outcomes for the US Air Force, enabling more efficient and effective training programmes, the companies announced on 21 June.
USAF standards require preeminently-trained pilots who can effectively complete their missions in highly challenging circumstances. Training and qualifying pilots for these assignments requires costly resources, including expert trainers and physical resources such as simulators and the availability of live flying. The service has adopted the most advanced technological solutions to attain Proficiency-Based Training (PBT) that emphasises quality and ensures maximum readiness.
To support this effort, Aptima’s precision training and on-the-job augmentation capabilities are integrated with Britannica’s FOX automating scheduling functionality, to enable personalisation of the training process, so that pilots can focus on the skills that require additional practice, limiting sessions for skills already mastered. USAF pilots can now benefit from an individualised training programme, based not only on individual performance, but also in comparison to historical performance derived from analysis of pilots over several years. These adaptive training and scheduling programmes enable the USAF to qualify pilots faster – and far more efficiently – than using traditional training methods.
