MONS Gear Box Product Review
MONS Gear Box was recently invited by Delta P Design to test its brandnew BREVIS III MP7 suppressor, which the company now adds to its line-up of suppressors. Compared to the BREVIS II line, the BREVIS III is a completely different suppressor, designed for military applications, meeting NATO requitements. Using state-of-the-art Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) 3-D printing technology, the BREVIS III is manufactured in a single, solid piece of metal with no welds or threaded seams for failure points.
The BREVIS III is a new line of suppressors that, according to the company, “surpasses conventional technology and meets the full range of NATO suppressor requirements. Based on the proven BREVIS II, the BREVIS III adds features to reliably suppress machine guns from the MP7 to the M2 BMG.”
At 4.8in (120mm) long it just weighs 8.3oz (235g) and has an average sound reduction of 1m to left of muzzle: 28.5dB at a sound level of 136.7dB, 130.8dB at shooter’s ear. This at an ammunition load of 4.6x30mm Fiocchi 40gr FMJ at a cyclic rate within approx. 10% of the unsuppressed rate.
According to the company, the BREVIS III suppressors are smaller, lighter, and more durable than conventionally made suppressors and are therefore able to withstand the extremes of heat and pressure found in certain applications.
Manufactured entirely in Inconel (for belt-fed machine guns) or titanium (for bolt-action or semi-automatic rifles), the suppressor demonstrated in testing its ability to combine shorter length, lighter weight, and superior durability than possible with conventional design and manufacturing technology. Like the rest of the BREVIS line, the new suppressors excel in all categories including both sound and flash suppression. The BREVIS III does not degrade shot grouping or boresight. We were able to remove or install the suppressor from the SIG Sauer MCX RATTLER to the HK MP7 with no need for re-calibration, adding 2.3in (58mm) at only 6.7oz (190g) vs flash hiders.
