Successful Training and Evaluation Event
In June, Preparation Command of the Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB – Brazilian Air Force) conducted the first in-flight refueling exercise with helicopters.
Conducted in Rio de Janeiro with aircraft from the Natal, Santa Cruz and Galeão Air Bases, the exercise aimed to train rotary-wing pilots in the intricacies of in-flight refueling. 1/1 ‘Gordo’ squadron of the First Transport Group contributed a KC-130 tanker to the activity, while the H-36 Caracal helicopters came from 1/8 ‘Falcão’ and 3/8 ‘Puma’ squadrons of the Eighth Aviation Group.
“With this training, Brazil joins the select group of countries that have [an] in-flight refueling capacity with rotary-wing aircraft,” commented Captain Aviator Israel Azevedo Luz, Operations Manager for the H-36 programme.
