Air Force Receives First of Five AEW Aircraft
Rohde & Schwarz has equipped the Brazilian Air Force’s (FAB) modernised E-99M airborne early warning and surveillance aircraft with secure, modern communications, the company announced on 18 January.
The FAB is modernising five E-99M, each equipped with highly secure software-defined radios (SDR) and waveforms of the SOVERON family, widely used in Brazil. The modernisation is part of an FAB project in collaboration with Embraer and international suppliers, such as Rohde & Schwarz.
The E-99M aircraft is vital for detection, tracking, identification and air traffic control It complements ground radar signals, improves situational awareness, and transmits information via secure data links, using Rohde & Schwarz waveforms. This allows the FAB to participate in aerial surveillance missions to combat irregular traffic. The aircraft is interoperable, thanks to secure communications with other aircraft and ground stations equipped with Rohde & Schwarz products.
“We have a long history as a partner for secure communications with [the] FAB, that started more than 20 years ago, having committed ourselves to deliver customised solutions that meet all needs of Brazil,” explains Alipio A Teixeira, Managing Director and CEO, Rohde & Schwarz do Brasil Ltda. “Technology, local content, training and support are key and we have a proven track record to be a reliable partner with our strong local presence.”
The FAB received the first modernised E-99M aircraft in a ceremony at Embraer’s facilities, together with key suppliers, including Rohde & Schwarz.
