Improves and Expands National Airspace Control and Monitoring
During Airspace World 2023 in Switzerland on 8 March, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) signed a contract with IACIT Technological Solutions for five RMT 0200 S-band double polarisation solid-state radars, intended to expand meteorological coverage of Brazil’s airspace and enhance the efficiency and safety of aviation in the country.
The RMT 0200 provides location information and supports the monitoring of weather phenomena over long distances and in real time. It also provides detailed data on the formation and characteristics of atmospheric events, classifying them by nature and severity – crucial information for air traffic management and safety. The IACIT RMT 0200 is the only solid-state S-band dual polarisation weather radar developed and manufactured in Brazil, and was classified as a ‘Strategic Defense Product’ by the Brazilian MoD in 2019.
The radars, procured by DECEA [the Department of Airspace Control] will form part of Brazil’s airspace monitoring network. They will be integrated into the Webradar system, used by the Integrated Aeronautical Meteorology Center (CIMAER), for data analysis, monitoring and operation of meteorological radars and operations support to provide aeronautical meteorology services such as VOLMET. The programme falls in line with the plans developed by CISCEA [the Air Control System Implementation Commission].
