Second Boat of RIACHUELO-class
The Brazilian Navy launched the HUMAITÁ (S41) submarine on 11 December at the Itaguaí Naval and Industrial Complex (CNI), on the occasion of Sailor’s Day.
At the same time the symbolic mating of the stern section of TONELERO (S42) with the rest of the hull was conducted, and the testing stages of the other units in the class of four RIACHUELO-class boats being constructed under the national Submarine Building Programme (ProSub) were showcased.
HUMAITÁ is the second RIACHUELO boat, based on the French SCORPÈNE design, and the total programme cost will run to some $7 billion, of which about $4 billion has already been allocated.
