Brazil Approves Helicopter Weapons System Requirements

Enhanced Capability and Effectiveness

On 16 December, the Brazilian Army approved the technical, logistical and industrial requirements for its future axial armament and helicopter imaging system (SiAAIH), the EB20-RTLI-04.047.

The operational requirements stipulate that the HA-1A Fennec (AS550 A2) and HM-1A Pantera (AS365 K2) aircraft, in reconnaissance and attack configuration, must be able to mount the following axial armaments, in single or mixed configurations: 12.7x99mm machinegun; 70mm unguided rockets compatible with the Mk 66 currently in service, with various warheads; and air-to-ground missiles with various warheads.

The target and image acquisition subsystem must feature an EO/IR system, white-hot and black-hot modes, day/night sensor, target designator and illuminator compatible with night vision goggles, as well as a range finder with a range of 10km and maximum error of 20 meters.

These requirements will enable the supply of the SiAAIH to Army Aviation, and make room for the introduction of anti-tank guided missiles.
