Boeing to Update US Navy P-8A POSEIDON Training

Four-Year $194 Million Contract to Update Courseware and Software

Boeing is to update training for the US Navy’s (USN) P-8A POSEIDON maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) under a four-year, $194 million contract award, which also supports the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) aircraft and will reflect the latest configuration of the platform, the company announced on 13 September.

Boeing Global Services will update courseware and upgrade devices at three locations for the USN and the RAAF. The company has developed a comprehensive training system to provide training for aircrew and maintenance crews for the POSEIDON. The former includes courseware, classrooms, part-task trainers and full-fidelity simulators for both pilot and mission crew while the maintenance training solution includes courseware, classrooms, hardware and virtual maintenance simulators to support all USN maintenance certifications.

With increasing demand for realistic training that is concurrent and affordable, the P-8A training system gives pilots, air crews and maintainers the most immersive environment at a fraction of the cost to train in a P-8A,” explained the company’s VP of USN and USMC Services, Pat Walsh. “Boeing is proud to provide a high-fidelity experience that offers a seamless transition from classroom to aircraft.”
