Additional Three Years Support
BIRD Aerosystems announced on 12 February that it has been awarded a three year follow-on contract for maintenance and support of a fleet of aircraft for the Mexican government. This follows the original 2015 contract when BIRD supplied the special mission aircraft (SMA) fleet, which includes Cessna CITATIONs modified for the ground surveillance role and special mission Bell 407 helicopters, headquarters and intervention vehicles, all fitted with the company’s Special Mission Aircraft Solutions (ASIO) system.
The ASIO solution allows all operating teams to share a unified overview and real-time situational awareness, significantly enhancing security of borders, strategic sites and infrastructure. Integrated with BIRD’s unique mission management system and using the latest surveillance and monitoring sensors, ASIO has become an affordable, reliable and capable SMA solution.
The contract includes aircraft maintenance and inspections, initial and refresher training courses for operational crews, provision of spare parts, ground support equipment and special tools to ensure the operational availability of the fleet. It also provides for a variety of system upgrades to be performed by BIRD for the mission system capabilities, night vision operation capabilities and fleet modernisation to meet 2020 regulations.
