BIRD Aerosystems to Upgrade Czech AMPS

Updates MILDS and MCDU, Paves the Way for MACS

BIRD Aerosystems is to upgrade the Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) previously supplied to the Czech Air Force, the company announced on 15 September.

BIRD AMPS are already installed on Czech Mi-17 helicopters and have been successfully deployed on operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere. The update consists of an upgrade for the MILDS UV detection sensors and MCDU mission computers, as well as paving the way for future installation of the Missile Approach Confirmation Sensor (MACS).

We see this as a sign of proof for the operational value that BIRD’s AMPS bring to the customer […] We believe that this overall improvement will allow the Czech Air Force to keep focusing on important operational missions while knowing that their force is protected,” commented Ronen Factor, Co-CEO at BIRD Aerosystems.

BIRD‘s AMPS provides enhanced protection for military and civilian aircraft against all known surface-to-air missiles (SAM), including MANPADS, laser and radar-guided missiles. It automatically detects, verifies, and foils SAM attacks through the effective use of countermeasures such as decoys (flares and chaff) or directed IR countermeasures (DIRCM) that jams the missile’s IR seeker and protects. AMPS is provided as a turn-key solution that includes installation design, installation, integration, certification and support, and is certified by leading aircraft manufacturers.
