Global 7500 and G700 to be Equipped and Certified
BIRD Aerosystems, in collaboration with an unidentified Asian company specialized in defence projects in the GCC and Europe, is to equip Global 7500 and G700 aircraft with its advanced Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS), the company announced on 13 February.
The two VIP aircraft will be operated by a European customer and will also carry the company’s Self Protection Radar Electro-Optic System (SPREOS) directed IR countermeasures (DIRCM) system: both BIRD systems will be integrated into its lightweight Aeroshield Pod and supplemental type certificates will be sought for both aircraft configurations.
Already operationally deployed in conflict areas worldwide, AMPS provides enhanced protection for military and civilian aircraft against the growing threat MANPADS missile threat. It automatically detects, verifies, and foils attacks using DIRCM to jam the missile’s IR seeker. Cued by missile warnining sensors, SPREOS uniquely confirms the reality of a threat or a false alarm and assesses the nature of the threat, tracks it an cues an QCL dual-band laser to defeat it.
