2019-2020 Shows 8% Increase in Exports Compared With 2018
BIDBrasil (Base Industrial de Defesa – Defence Industrial Base) welcomed Brazilian Minister of Defence, Walter Souza Braga Netto, on 8 December. After inaugurating the panel Protection, Development and Employment Creation, the Minister toured the exhibition, organised by ABIMDE (the Brazilian Association of Defence Industries and Security Materials) and taking place in Brasilia, 7-9 December.
The panel was attended by the President of ABIMDE, Dr Roberto Gallo; the Secretary of Defense Products, Dr Marcos Rosas Degaut Pontes; Gen Duizit Brito, from Seprod; the President of BNDES, Gustavo Montezano: and the President of Comdefesa and VP of the National Confederation of Industries (CNI), Dr Glauco Corte. At the opening of the panel, the Minister announced the most recent results for Brazil’s defence industry, confirming growth of over 8% in 2019-2020, compared with 2018. In November this year, the industry surpassed $1.5 billion (€1.32 billion) in export sales. The Minister also highlighted the 2.9 million jobs generated by the defence and security sector.
Braga Netto emphasised the importance of the work carried out by ABIMDE, and the importance of holding the BIDBrasil exhibition for the sector.
