On the occasion of SHOT Show 2017, MILITARY TECHNOLOGY publishes the Second Annual Rugged Tactical Tools for Extreme Conditions (RTTEC) Series that conveys the thoughts and messages of the world’s tactical equipment leaders, according to the question: “As soldiers and Special Forces operators expect their gear to be 100% reliable, how do you step up to offer extremely durable, rugged gear to keep operations running?”
We start by involving those same warfighters and special operations personnel in the new product development discussion from day one, ensuring that the wide variety applications are thoroughly understood by the design and engineering team and taken into account before any pencils hit the drafting table. From this outset, we strive to consistently provide the best tool for the job while also being cognisant of all the other use-cases that the product and the operator will encounter which seems fundamental, but it is surprisingly something we see that gets missed more often than not. Fortunately, this has allowed us to stay ahead of the curve in terms of product longevity in combat conditions. We have systems come back to us routinely that are completely beat up after a decade or more in the field, yet are still completely functional and just in need of a basic cleaning in order to be put back into service.
Ensuring that the gear is up for the task and more is something that we take a lot of pride in. An innovative and elegant solution starts with the design team getting behind the gun with the operators to understand their needs, and to also reveal advantages that advanced technologies can give them that they might have not known to ask for otherwise.
