Teledyne GAVIA Demonstrates Mine Warfare Capabilities
During the Belgian Navy’s recent Unmanned MCM (Mine Counter-Measure) Trials in the North Sea, Teledyne Gavia successfully demonstrated a series of capabilities including the GAVIA Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), a SEABOTIX Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and the BLUEVIEW multibeam profiler.
Trials conducted from Belgian Navy vessels off Zeebrugge enabled Teledyne to showcase a significant capability in ‘gap fill,’ using the BLUEVIEW 2250 multi-beam profiler coupled with the EDGETECH 2250 5–/1600kHz side scan sonar mounted on a GAVIA AUV. The profiler offers users the ability to gap fill the nadir – the low data density portion of the side scan sonar image directly beneath the AUV’s path. This means scan overlap requirements are reduced, leading to greater area coverage in a given period or less time to cover a given area. The Belgian Navy trials demonstrated a capability to cover 40% more area, which has great potential impact on the future of MCM operations of this nature.
