BEL Showcases Capabilities, Honours Vendors

Support for ‘Make in India’

Senior politicians from Tamil Nadu and officials from the Ministry of Defence and other government agencies participated in the inauguration of a two day Defence Industry Meet in Chennai, India on 18 January. One of the most prominent participants in the exhibition organised on the sidelines of the meet, Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL), used the opportunity to showcase its capabilities and recognise outstanding vendors in its supply chain.

The exhibition’s aims were encapsulated in the title “Forging a New Partnership with Industry for Defence Production” and BEL briefed visitors, politicians and officials on the range of components and sub-systems that the company has successfully indigenised through the nation’s private industry. The company has been seeking to achieve the goal of self-reliance by supporting the government’s Make in India initiative and recognises outsourcing as one of the strategic tools that can achieve cost benefits and also complement the strengths of the private sector in the creation of a strong industrial base.

BEL also honoured four of its vendors for their commitment, reliable services, quality of products and timely deliveries at the event, singling out K S Engineering Tools, Chennai; HI-Q Electronics Pvt Ltd, Hosur; Pinaka Aerospace Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru; and V AIM Group, Bengaluru. In addition Mr. M V Gowtama, Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, chaired a panel discussion on naval electronics with Commodore Rakeh Anand (Ret’d.), Chairman and Managing Director of Mazagon Dock Limited.
