At Least Nine Draco Simulators to be Supplied
3D perception has selected the Barco FS40-4K projector for its Draco mini-dome simulator, destined for the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) at the US Air Force Test Center (AFTC), the companies announced on 7 June.
JSE is an advanced training and simulation environment for 4th– and 5th-generation aircraft, including the F-16 and F-35. 3D perception was selected to supply a minimum of nine immersive visual display systems, in support of the Threat and Friendly/Virtual Air Threat (TAF/VAT) JSE, for delivery to Edwards, Nellis, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Bases.
Barco’s FS40-4K solid-state illumination projector offers images at 4K (3840×2400) resolution. With the high frame rate processing and integrated adjustable Smear Reduction Processing of Barco Pulse, smooth, fast-moving images are assured. Using no lamps or other consumables, and providing 50,000 hours LED lifetime and 24/7 operation, the FS40-4K offers the lowest total cost of ownership for a projector and highest price/performance rating available.
The power of the Draco mini-dome simulator for fast-jet applications is that it couples high visual quality with reconfigurability, meaning the systems are designed for rapid delivery, installation, adaptation, and relocation. “The Barco FS40-4K projector was selected for this advanced fast jet programme due to its exceptional performance quality and feature set,” explained Knut Krogstad, 3D perception CEO. The Draco 240+ model selected for this programme has 240° horizontal and 150° vertical fields of view.
Important highlights of the system include the enhanced pilot immersion via dynamic eye point, seamless image through continuous time-of-day transitions and NVG scenes via automated dynamic electronic-optical hybrid blending, a compact footprint of 3.35x3m, camera-free solid-state image auto-alignment and calibration technology, and motorized height adjustment for adapting to multiple cockpits.
“3D perception has long been a valued Barco Simulation partner and their visual display systems are highly respected in the industry,” added Neil Wittering, Segment Marketing Manager at Barco. “We know the quality and reliability expected and demanded by their customers […] The FS40-4K is renowned for both its image quality and reliability and is therefore an excellent match with the sophisticated Draco mini-dome system.”
