BAE Systems Continues Support for Australian Air Defence Simulator

A $7 Million to Extend RBS70 Simulator Coverage for Further Three Years

The Australian DoD has signed a $7 million (€4.3 million) contract with BAE Systems Australia to provide continued support for the Advanced Air Defence Simulator (AADS) for a further three years.

The simulator, at Woodside Barracks in Adelaide, provides training for operators of the RBS70 short-range air defence system (SHORADS). “The contract extension will provide continued support to 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, with state-of-the-art training facilities,” commented Minister for Defence Industry, Melissa Price. “The Advanced Air Defence Simulator delivers an immersive and interactive training solution to Army’s use of the RBS70 weapon systems, which are designed to protect Australian soldiers […] The contract extension with BAE Systems Australia represents continued investment in Australian industry and the continuity of highly technical jobs and expertise.”

BAE Systems is working closely with a number of key Australian businesses to support the contract:

  • Saab Australia (Adelaide) – integration of the simulator and C2 system;
  • Bohemia Interactive Simulations (Williamtown, NSW) – simulation software;
  • Xenon Systems (Melbourne) – computer hardware; and
  • Barco (Sydney) – projectors.
