BAE Systems £40 Million for LIGHTNING II Sustainment

Engineering, Maintenance, Training and Supply Chain Management at RAF Marham

Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems will form a team of over 100 skilled technicians at RAF Marham to provide engineering and technical expertise, routine maintenance, global supply chain management and training for both aircrew and ground crew for the UK’s F-35 LIGHTNING II fleet. Lockheed Martin has subcontracted some £40 million of work to BAE Systems under an £80 million (U$102 million) contract from the F-35 Joint Program Office.

The two companies were awarded a £142 million contract in April 2016 to deliver an Operations Centre, an Integrated Training Centre and a Maintenance & Finish building at RAF Marham. Work continues to be on target for completion in early 2018: 617 Squadron is scheduled to srat flying the UK’s initial operational F-35s from Marham from 2018.

We are working hard to prepare for the arrival of F-35 LIGHTNING II and this contract is the next step towards that reality,” Andrea Thompson, BAE Systems’ Senior VP F-35 LIGHTNING II, said. “This contract builds upon our pedigree in delivering maintenance and support to the UK’s fast jet fleets at bases across the country, including at RAF Marham where we have been supporting the operation of the Tornado GR4 fleet for the last decade.”
