36 New F-15QAs for Qatar Emiri Air Force

Boeing wins $6.1 billion order for 36 Qatari F-15QA fighters

The Pentagon announced late 2017 it awarded Boeing Defense, Space, & Security a $6,173,500,000 undefinitised contract action contract for the F-15 Qatar programme.

This contract provides for the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) requirement to procure 36 new F-15QA Advanced EAGLE combat aircraft for the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) .

All aircraft will be delivered to the QEAF by 30 December 2022. The contract follows an agreement that was signed by Qatar and the US in June 2017 for the latest F-15 variant. That agreement was originally reported to be for 36 aircraft for U$12 billion, suggesting that either a follow-on procurement for another 36 fighters might be possible, or that the initial agreement also covers an as-yet-unannounced major weapons purchase to accompany the late 2017 contract. The order came after the US Department of Defense notified US congress in November 2016 that Qatar could buy up to 72 F-15QAs and associated equipment worth $21 billion over the long-term.

Qatar’s recent fighter procurement announcements were quite remarkable in terms of their scope and ambition, having signed for 36 Dassault RAFALEs from France and 24 Eurofighter TYPHOONs from the UK in recent months. These 60 aircraft coupled with the 36 F-15QA Advanced EAGLEs are set to replace just 12 ageing Dassault MIRAGE 2000s and make quite a heavy force for such a small nation.
