Avalon 2017: SCORPION Among Textron Offerings

Special Mission Capabilities Also to the Fore

Textron Aviation’s wide range of products on display at Avalon 2017 in Geelong through 5 March includes many examples of the civil-roled aircraft that have cemented its strong position in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the company is also taking the opportunity to emphasise the defence and security applications of several of its platforms.

The SCORPION twin-engined multi-mission tactical jet from Textron AirLand is prominent – in model form – at the company’s Avalon chalet. Offering what the company claims to be, “unparalleled acquisition and operating costs,” SCORPION’s coattails are being dragged before the various military forces in the region that have requirements for affordable and reliable small scale operational capability in ISR, maritime or border patrol, close air support or aircrew training.

Training is already an important regional market for Textron Aviation, as the New Zealand Defence Forces have begun successfully operating their 11 T-6C trainers. The company is also showcasing a broad range of special missions platforms, already in use in the region and globally in roles as diverse as instrument calibration, air ambulance, surveillance and border patrol.
