Rockwell Collins Mixed Reality Solution for Training
Rockwell Collins’ COALESCENCE mixed reality training solution, which encapsulates the user in a virtual and augmented environment for air, land or sea missions, will feature prominently in the company’s exhibit at Avalon 2017 in Australia through 5 March.
The system merges the trainee’s real world view with a synthetic environment, providing a seamlessly enhanced mixed reality that offers trainees immersive and engaging training scenarios for faster learning transfer and more effective training. The solution also offers low total system latency to avoid motion sickness. Future development will be focused on adding depth sensing technology, increasing the positional tracking volume, and technology refreshes to keep current with the latest commercial helmet mounted display developments. COALESCENCE is scheduled to be available later this year, with production anticipated to commence in 2018.
“COALESCENCE is state-of-the-art technology. Once a user chooses a scenario and applies the headset, they are able to see the simulated world and physical objects nearby such as a smartphone, a weapon and their hands,” commented Jim Walker, vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific for Rockwell Collins. “Combining each of these dynamics creates the most real training environment next to on-site, live training at a fraction of the cost.”
