Australian Companies Partner in Armour for Close-Quarter Combat Training

Chiron Global and ACE Eye Defence and Law Enforcement Markets

Australian companies Chiron Global Tech and Armor Composite Engineering (ACE) announced a partnership on 26 May aimed at bringing Chiron’s close-quarter combat (CQC) training armour to production at scale for the defence and law enforcement markets.

The agreement will combine ACE’s manufacturing expertise with Chiron’s design and technology know-how to produce a solution both companies view as having considerable export potential. Working with a variety of end-users over the last two years to perfect the prototype suits, Chiron will now unveil its flagship product – the Chiron-X1Ô – with ACE at Land Forces 21 in Brisbane, 1-3 June. The highly protective body armour system sets a new standard in CQC training and is designed to withstand repeated high-impact forces and real, high-speed strikes to vital body targets, while maximising agility and manoeuvrability.

Manufactured from hard-plate, advanced composite materials, the Chiron-X1Ô enables seamless ‘force continuum escalation’ from kinetic to non-kinetic without changing suits or equipment, allowing superior levels of combat realism while reinforcing life-saving muscle memory. The partnership with ACE will allow production to be quickly scaled to meet current demand for suits.

The feedback we received during testing highlighted extensive limitations with current soft training suits commonly used for close-quarter combat training. This was incorporated into the design of the superior Chiron-X1Ô training suit, which is lighter, faster to move in, less bulky, self-dressing and available in a range of sizes, colours and options for female personnel,” explained Chiron Co-CEO, David Pysden.

The two companies will also collaborate on additional body armour systems, including an operational riot variant, already in pre-production and with an estimated delivery date of mid-2022. ACE Director of Engineering, Adam Fairbairn, commented that the synergies between the two companies provide leverage opportunities both are keen to explore. “Chiron has designed a world-leading suit that has significant applications beyond training, which we believe presents excellent manufacturing opportunities. We are currently working with Chiron’s design team to apply ACE’s composites engineering expertise and experience [in] working closely with Defence, to develop a high-coverage, highly protective product for specialist active duty.”
