AUSA Global Force: Oshkosh Defense’s Focus on New and Future Vehicles

World Premier of L-ATV Ambulance

As a follow up to MONCh content posted earlier this week (https://monch.com/mpg/ news/land/5201-oshgorce.html), Oshkosh Defense unveiled for the first time this week its L-ATV Ambulance. “This is a concept demonstrator,” explained George Mansfield, Vice President and General Manager of Joint Programs at the company. “We don’t have any requirements. We’re trying to generate interest and allow the Army and other prospective customers, in the US and overseas, to tell us what they want us to do to enhance this vehicle.”

For its part, Oshkosh appears to have a sound baseline vehicle concept for the services to examine. The new ambulance is designed to keep pace with JLTVs which are being delivered to the US services. Beyond speed, L-ATV will similarly have an off-road capability, as will its JLTV siblings, through a powerful drivetrain and Oshkosh’s proprietary TAK-4i independent suspension. An “unspecified” armour company supplies materiel to raise the degree of protection provided onboard medical personnel and wounded, when compared to legacy-era, like vehicles. Oshkosh will exhibit the new L-ATV at this June’s AUSA Army Medical Symposium and Exposition (https://www.ausa.org/army-medical-symposium). As significant, Mr Mansfield revealed Oshkosh will unveil a new, unspecified JLTV variant at this May’s SOFIC in Tampa, Florida, tailored to Special Forces’ mission sets.
