Delivery From 2020 to September 2024
Greek defence electronics house Theon Sensors and strategic ally Elbit Systems of America (which acquired Harris Night Vision earlier this year), have won a $249 million (€226 million) joint-venture contract for the US Marine Corps’ Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle (SBNVG) programme.
The five-year programme anticipates an expected quantity of over 14,000 systems will be supplied. Theon Sensors will provide its NYX night vision binocular to Elbit Systems in semi knocked-down kit (SKD) format, with final manufacturing taking place at Elbit’s Roanoke night vision production facility. Theon will also provide night vision accessories and spare parts throughout the contract period.
“Until now we are the leading night vision company in Europe. Our standard goal/vision of being established in the demanding US market, becomes today a reality. After four years of persistent and intense effort, we have been able to win with our US partner this major US Pentagon contract. We believe this is the biggest success of a Greek defense [company] in the US market,” commented Theon Sensors CEO, Christian Hadjiminas.
With strong support from both Greek and US governments, Theon Sensors is poised to grow its business in the US. The company is attending the AUSA conference and exhibition in Washington, DC, this week and, through the SelectUSA programme, has been introduced to state economic development organisations throughout the country that will assist the company in its search for an appropriate location from which to direct that growth.
