Appi Technology promote cell-phone like performance embedded in PRR

During the Association of the United States Army exhibition being held in Washington DC between 8 October and 10 October, officials from Appi Technologies outlined the performance of the firm’s Appi-Com radio system.

The firm stated that the full-duplex radio offers “cell-phone” like performance using a self-healing network across ranges of up to two kilometres (1.3 miles) across a 863 megahertz/MHz to 870MHz, and 902MHz to 928MHz wavebands without the need for any fixed infrastructure. Company officials added that, for all intents and purposes, the number of participants whom can be hosted on an Appi-Com network is unlimited. In terms of communications/transmission security the Appi-Com the radios retain a frequency hopping, as well as clear transmission, modes hosting up to 50 channels. Up to six hours’ talk time and ten hours’ listening time is provided by the radio’s battery which can be charged from a USB (Universal Serial Bus) socket. The radio has been designed primarily to carry voice traffic, although company officials stated that data, at a kilobits-per-second data rate, can be carried which allows the radio to be connected via Bluetooth to biometric sensors, for example, or to a wireless headset.

While the company is reticent to name customers, officials did share that the Appi-Com has been procured by a number of NATO militaries, and that the product is also in widespread use in the civilian law enforcement and safety-critical industries.
