Electronic, Electro-Optic and Electro-Mechanical Systems Leverage Recent Experience
Having conducted successful upgrade and modernisation programmes for the Turkish Army M60 and LEOPARD I MBT fleets over the last decade. Aselsan has leveraged the experience gained in these programmes to design, develop and commission all the electronic, electro-optical and electro-mechanical subsystems for the new ALTAY tank. Now integrated, tested and successfully qualified, the systems benefit from Aselsan’s avowed policy throughout the development process to ensure maximum logistic commonality and operational availability in order to optimise life cycle costs.
In a test programme that saw more than 2,000 live rounds fired from ALTAY tanks, the subsystems evaluated and qualified included the next-generation fire control system, electrical gun and turret drives, the remote weapon station, the battlefield management system, digital radios, intercommunications system, laser warning receiver, target identification device and driver vision system. These systems were tested on the LEOPARD 2A4 prior to being integrated onto the ALTAY prototypes. The Aselsan AKKOR active protection system is planned to be fitted to the first batch of ALTAYs from serial production.
Aselsan has now developed a capability among defence equipment suppliers of being able to supply all the electronic, electro-optical and electro-mechanical subsystems required for a modern MBT. The company is entirely ready to support the serial production of ALTAY.
