Rheinmetall Will Deliver 1,256 Systems in 2019
The Canadian Armed Forces have exercised an option under the Integrated Soldier Systems Project (ISSP) to procure an additional 1,256 ARGUS soldier systems from Rheinmetall. The company will complete delivery against the C$22 million (€14.3 million) order next year.
Final production of ARGUS is currently under way, with 1,632 units slated for delivery this year. Already in service with Canada’s armed forces, ARGUS has been described as a tool, “that will improve situational awareness for dismounted troops, allowing better command and control and improving their performance and protection,” by Gen. Jonathan Vance, Chief of the Canadian Defence Staff. He added that it, “puts on the soldier or anybody on the ground the ability to understand their environment. Not only is a soldier a sensor but also a receiver of information. At your fingertips is your www.mywar.com – this is where I am right now, this is what is happening to me right now. I can prevail more because I understand better what is going on.”
Rheinmetall’s portfolio of soldier systems includes the German Armed Forces’ (Bundeswehr) Future Soldier – Expanded System (IdZES), advanced ARGUS New Generation and the GLADIUS 2.0, all of which bring individual infantry soldiers, combat vehicles and unmanned systems into the tactical sensor-to-shooter network. Higher echelon command elements can also be included. The common operational picture forms the basis for faster, better-informed decision-making at all levels, a key factor in gaining and maintaining the initiative.
