EDF Provides €9 Million Grant to Accelerate Development
The European Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems (FAMOUS) consortium kicked off its next-generation armoured vehicle development programme on 14 December, project coordinator Patria announced on 17 December.
The start of the project was enabled by the funding agreement of €9 million from the European Defence Fund under the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP). The consortium – consisting of 19 leaqding defence companies from across the EU – will now be free to start developing future technologies and solutions that enhance ground combat capabilities in the areas of mobility, hybrid operations, power generation and energy storage, as well as security systems, situational awareness, robotics, C4I solutions, weapon systems and modern lifecycle support solutions.
“It is great to have this project and its development work now officially underway. This FAMOUS consortium is a unique and innovative approach to develop areas of next-generation technology that can be utilised in a variety of armoured vehicles and systems – eventually in actual use,” explained Jussi Järvinen, President of Patria’s Land Business Unit.
