Confusion Over Algerian UAS Fleet

China and UAE Sources – and Local Production?

Informed speculation surrounds the revelations made by video footage circulating in December offering views of at least two UAS originating in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Adcom’s YABHON UNITED 40 and YABHON FLASH-20 were both identified on a military flightline in the footage, and informed sources revealed the UAS are known locally as ALGERIA 54 and ALGERIA 55 respectively. What is leading to confusion is the claim that they were both produced in Algeria. However, there is some evidence to suggest that Adcom Systems is currently inactive and that a license may, in fact, have been sold to Algeria, who had expressed interest in acquiring both aircraft as long ago as 2013.

Meanwhile, other revelations earlier last year confirmed Algerian use of Chinese UAS, including the CH-3 and CH-4. These systems have endurances of 12 and 40 hours respectively. The CH-3 has been seen carrying weapons (FT-5 guided munitions and AR-1 missiles), while the CH-4 has not – but is fitted with hardpoints.

Algeria also operates the Denel SEEKER UAS.
