Burkina Faso Expands Military Airlift Fleet

Airbus Announces Firm Order for C295

The armed forces of Burkina Faso have committed to expanding the nation’s military airlift capability by placing a firm order with Airbus for a single C295, the company announced on 11 December.

Under its 2018-2022 Military Acquisition Law, the Ministry of Defence plans to enhance its air transport capability, which is currently provided by a single CN-235 and a lone SUPER KING AIR 200. The C295 is well adapted to the harsh sub-Saharan Africa operating environment, according to Airbus. Together with its affordable maintenance and operational costs, the C295 is the perfect match for the climatic conditions of Burkina Faso.

We are very proud to see that with Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Ivory Coast and now Burkina Faso, the C295 is becoming the 21st century’s standard tactical airlifter in Africa, with 36 aircraft operating in the region,” commented Bernhard Brenner, Head of Marketing and Sales for Airbus Defence and Space.
