ISR System Installed on DHC 6-400 TWIN OTTERS
Airborne Technologies, working with Viking Air in Canada, has converted three DHC 6-400 TWIN OTTER seaplanes into advanced ISR platforms, the Vienna-based company announced on 9 November. The three aircraft have already been delivered to the end user in Southeast Asia.
The company assembled two SCAR-PODS to carry an EO/IR camera system (WESCAM MX-15) as well as the complete Airborne LINX mission system, including a BMS Line of Sight Downlink, a multi-channel data recorder, a CARTENAV Augmented Reality System, and a G.Tech Mission computer.
The SCAR PODs are designed to be fully interchangeable between all three aircraft, thus offering high fleet flexibility. An optional radar pod – also wing mounted – will enhance the aircraft’s maritime patrol capabilities. The customer-specified cabin configuration enables operation of all systems to be conducted from the co-pilot’s position or an observer station behind the flight deck.
