Gore Aerospace Materials for F-16 Wing Gaskets

Effectively protects aircraft against mechanical forces & harsh environments

 

The F-16 programme office (US Air Force Program Office (SPO) to specifically address aging aircraft issues) recently issued an F-16 Maintenance Awareness Message approving W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (Gore) GORE SKYFLEX Aerospace Materials products for use on F-16 wing access panels.

These new wing gaskets join other GORE SKYFLEX Aerospace Materials products already approved for use throughout the F-16.

“These gaskets deliver consistent, reliable sealing in demanding operational environments, providing the same high-performance characteristics of GORE SKYFLEX Aerospace Gaskets already used on the F-16,” Ross Livington, Gore Product Specialist, explained. “The GORE SKYFLEX Aerospace Materials Team is aggressively working to develop additional gaskets in its effort to improve aircraft availability.”

GORE SKYFLEX Aerospace Materials effectively seal panels and protect against mechanical forces and harsh environments that can damage aircraft structures, such as vibration, corrosion, high temperatures, aggressive fluids, UV radiation, and other environmental hazards that tend to break down and weaken traditional materials. According to the company, unlike traditional two-component sealants, the materials are lightweight and non-curing, and they simplify the process by reducing installation steps. GORE SKYFLEX Aerospace Materials are available in a variety of form-in-place (FIP) tapes and die-cut gaskets in various sizes.

For gasket use on the F-16 wing access panels, the interim approval guidance presented in the Maintenance Awareness Message is sufficient authorisation for procurement and use until the appropriate technical order publications are updated.

Proven by more than 20 years of successful applications, GORE SKYFLEX Aerospace Materials are lightweight materials that provide a no-cure seal for panels, fairings, and oorboards and surface protection against vibration damage. They remain exible and compliant over multiple open/close cycles, providing durable protection against corrosion and the ingress of water, fuels, and oils, and are available in a form-in-place tape or die-cut gasket.
