MKU to Manufacture Two Helmet Ranges
At Aero India, MKU has signed a technology transfer agreement with India’s Defence Bio-Engineering and Electro Medical Laboratory (DEBEL) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to indigenise the production of aircrew helmets.
MKU will manufacture, under its Kavro brand, the Common Aircrew Helmet used in the MiG 21, Jaguar, Hawk and Kiran trainers, and the Lightweight Integrated Aircrew Helmet as used in the Su30 and other MiG-series fighters. This will mark the first time the Indian armed forces will be equipped with quality aviation helmets made in India.
A laboratory of the DRDO, DEBEL focuses on pertinent issues relating to defence, including aeromedical engineering, life support systems, and NBC protection. It plays a key role in developing advanced technologies for the Indian armed forces, with a focus on enhancing personnel safety and well-being. DEBEL designed and developed both helmets, using a combination of high-performance fibres and an EPS liner that can withstand high wind blast tests. They also feature radio communications and mountings for securing accessories such as oxygen masks and night vision goggles.
“This agreement will facilitate a transfer of technology and expertise between the two companies, with the ultimate goal of strengthening a self-reliant, indigenous defence manufacturing industry in India,” commented Neeraj Gupta, Managing Director of MKU Limited.
