FN’s Sea defender RWS to Equip all 12 Vessels
Naval Group and Kership have selected ABC and FN Herstal to supply strategic equipment – in propulsion and weapon systems respectively – for the 12 mine countermeasures vessels (MCMV) being procured for the Dutch and Belgian navies.
FN’s Sea deFNder remote weapon station (RWS), featuring its 12.7mm M2HB-QCB machine gun, will equip all 12 vessels. The RWS provides optimised remote firing capability day and night, and offers a high firing rate, while keeping the operator completely safe. Specifically designed for naval forces, this state-of-the-art equipment is perfectly suited to fulfil a wide variety of missions at sea, including anti-piracy, anti-terrorism, maritime traffic interception, and territorial surveillance.
“This contract is an additional strategic opportunity for the Group to be part of a European partnership programme, and will consolidate our position among world-leading weapon systems integrators,” commented FN Herstal VP Sales, Micolas de Gottal.
Ghent-based Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) is a leading manufacturer of medium-speed engines and has over 100 years of expertise in developing propulsion solutions for offshore patrol vessels, naval and offshore support vessels, research vessels, frigates, submarine towing and rescue ships and diving support vessels, as well as for diverse civilian applications. They will equip each of the 12 MCMV with three power generators – 36 sets in total.
“Our [equipment is] specifically designed and manufactured to withstand the toughest sea states. It is an important success for our teams, which highlights our 100 years of expertise,” explained Tim Berckmoes, Anglo Belgian Corporation CEO.
