AAD 2022: STM to Showcase Naval Platforms and UAS

Surface Vessels, Submarines, ISR UAS and Loitering Munitions

STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. will exhibit its naval platforms and tactical mini-UAS/loitering munitions at Africa Aerospace & Defence 2022 in Tshwane, 21-25 September.

On prominent display will be models of Turkey’s first national corvette – the Ada-class MILGE – plus the MPAC attack craft and TS-1700 submarine. Also on show will be members of the company’s growing family of UAS – Kargu (rotary-wing attack), Alpagu (fixed-wing attack) and Kogan (ISR).

STM collaborates and partners with entities in over 20 countries, producing flexible, indigenous engineering solutions for surface and submarine platforms for the navies of Turkey and a host of foreign nations. Pakistan and Ukraine are among the nations that have selected STM as a business and technology transfer partner: the company has built a fleet tanker for Pakistan (the largest military ship built in Turkey to date), has delivered the first modernized Khalid-class submarine (and is working on two more) and is heavily invested in the construction of four Ada-class corvettes for Karachi.

The shipyard has also designed and is building TCG Istanbul – Turkey’s first national frigate – which it will deliver next year and will feature 75% indigenous content. STM’s other surface and submarine projects cover a significant waterfront in terms of requirements, technologies and capabilities.

The tactical UAS systems have been developed internally and are already in operational use in Turkey and elsewhere. Kargu is in use in Turkey and in two other countries in counterterrorism operations, with negotiations advancing with other potential users. Togan and the weaponized Boyga UAS are already in Turkish service, in which they will soon be joined by Alpagu.

The Kargu rotary-wing attack UAS is attracting significant international attention. (STM)
