A400M DIRCM moves forward

Indra bullish on prospects for InShield

Indra has told MONS that it is hopeful that other Airbus A400M-180 strategic turboprop airlifter operators may adopt the firm’s InShield Directional Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) for their aircraft. The system has recently completed development for the Ejército del Aire (Spanish Air Force) A400M-180 fleet. Although development work is now complete, and production has commenced, Indra told MONS, via a written statement, that “the engineering efforts of our specialists are to be continued in the coming years in order to address several platform-specific activities related to system integration on different fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft,” indicating the potential of expanding the fleet of aircraft that the InShield could protect. Moreover, the statement said that the firm will continue to refine the overall InShield architecture based upon operational lessons learned as the system continues its service life.

Regarding other A400M-180 operators, the company continued that “other nations (operating the aircraft) have been closely observing the system’s evaluation and tests in recent years. We do believe that some of these operators, as well as others, are now increasing their interest in the InShield solution.” Additionally, Indra stated that it has the capability to expand InShield production to include additional customers without affecting the delivery schedule for its Spanish customer.
