Javier Escribano, new President of EM&E

EM&E Group holds 14.3% of Indra’s shares, making it the largest private shareholder and the second largest after SEPI

Javier Escribano, the current CEO of the Escribano Mechanical & Engineering Group, will assume the presidency of the Group following the appointment of his brother as Executive President of Indra. Ángel Escribano will therefore step down as President of the EM&E Group.

Fernando Fernández, Chief Operating Officer of EM&E Group since 2014, will become the company’s new CEO. Fernández has more than 20 years of experience in the defence sector, having held senior positions in several of the sector’s leading engineering companies.

EM&E Group is Spain’s leading defence and security group and is Indra’s largest private shareholder with 14.3% of the shares, after SEPI. With a turnover of more than 300 million euros in 2024 and an EBITDA of more than 100 million euros, EM&E has grown from a small machine shop to a benchmark company in the defence and security sector, both nationally and internationally.

Under the leadership of the Escribano brothers, the group has made constant investments in production capacity and R&D, as well as a strong increase in job creation, currently employing more than 1,300 professionals. It has also been characterised by public-private collaboration, territorial cohesion and a commitment to the internationalisation of the Spanish defence industry. In fact, the EM&E Group, in a unique case in the sector, started competing in the international market before making its foray into Spain.

Following the election of Ángel Escribano as Indra’s new Executive President by the multinational’s shareholders, Javier Escribano, previously CEO of the EM&E Group, will assume the presidency of the Group and continue its business strategy of expansion and growth. The EM&E Group will therefore continue with its strategic plan, developing the defence programmes in which it is involved, contributing to the strengthening of the Spanish industrial fabric and positioning Spain as a global benchmark in defence and security.
