Replaces Internal and External Comms for Three Vessel Classes
The Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) has contracted Saab to provide its TactiCall ICS integrated communications system for three classes of vessel for the Royal Norwegian Navy, the company confirmed on 21 December.
The system will replace existing internal and external communication resources, including multi-level secure communications at unclassified, restricted, NATO secret and national secret levels, thereby enhancing operator efficiency. It will be installed on the RNoN’s mine countermeasure vessels, the Skjold class corvettes and the Svalbard Coast Guard vessel – a total of seven vessels, for which deliveries will be effected between 2021-2024.
The TactiCall ICS facilitates the chain of command by giving naval teams access to a variety of communication channels at different security levels, from the same user terminal. With TactiCall, users can listen to a mix of both secure and unclassified communication and simultaneously be able to talk in both.
“We have a long-term partnership with the Royal Norwegian Navy and we are looking forward to replacing existing communication system with our innovative TactiCall system on these additional three classes of ship. TactiCall offers flexibility without compromising security demands, which are very important in the naval domain,” stated Mats Wicksell, Head of Saab’s Combat Systems business unit.
