Damen Completes 2017 Two-Vessel Order
The Pakistan Navy commissioned its latest corvette – PNS TABUK – on 12 November. Its sister vessel and first of its class – PNS YARMOOK – joined the fleet in February.
TABUK, built and delivered at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania, is a Damen OPV 1900 design and completes a two-vessel order placed by Pakistan in 2017. A multipurpose, highly adaptable platform, capable of performing a wide variety of operations in a complex maritime environment, she is able to launch a helicopter and a UAS, as well as two RHIBs simultaneously.
Referring to the high levels of cooperation that brought the project to a satisfactory conclusion, Flemming Sorensen, Managing Director of Damen Shipyards Galati, commented “[…] such an achievement is only possible with good coordination, skillful workmanship, excellent teamwork and good cooperation between all parties involved. Despite the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic, the Pakistan, Romanian and Dutch project teams have managed, with perseverance, to continue their work to successful completion.”
