Follows Existing LRIP Contract
Avon Rubber plc has received a sole-source contract – valued at up to $93 million (€80 million) to further develop and supply the US Army’s Next-Generation Integrated Head Protection System (IHPS), the company announced on 24 September.
The contract will follow on from the existing low-rate initial production contract for the IHPS, which comes to an end in 2021.
“This contract award demonstrates our ongoing focus on technological excellence and commitment to developing the next generation of life-critical personal protection systems […] This further strengthens our medium-term outlook and represents further momentum in our leading ballistic helmet portfolio,” commented Paul McDonald, CEO.
That momentum has recently been increased by the recent announcement that Avon is to buy US-based Team Wendy in a $130 million deal. After integrating the Cleveland, OH, family-owned supplier of helmets, liners and retention systems with its existing helmets and armour business, Avon anticipates creating a global brand leader in military and first responder markets with “a broader product portfolio and stronger capabilities and routes to market.”
