Company sees strength in Southeast Asian & Eastern European markets
NIMR has told MONCh that it expects to see a growing demand for its armoured vehicles across the Southeast Asian and Eastern European regions. The firm was speaking to MONCh during the DSA 2018 exhibition being held in Kuala Lumpur this week. Media reports during the exhibition stated that the Malaysian Army is currently in the process of performing field trials of the company’s LRSOV four-wheel drive special operations vehicle.
Beyond Malaysia, the company mentioned that it sees both Thailand and Indonesia as long-term sales prospects. NIMR argues that its vehicles represent a good fit for customers in the region, particularly regarding the tough topography and rain forest terrain found in much of southeast Asia. To this end, the central tyre inflation system used across the NIMR vehicle range and the vehicles boast a high power to weight ratio thanks to engines offering up to 300 horsepower.
Away from the region, the company is looking at potential markets in Eastern Europe, particularly land forces which are looking to move away from militarised four-wheel drive vehicles, to dedicated platforms built from the outset with military specifications. With this market in mind, the company is looking at ensuring its vehicles are both compatible with NATO military requirements and also European Union and national requirements regarding road safety.
NIMR added that towards the end of April it will perform manoeuvre and live fire demonstrations of its 440A vehicle in Lithuania equipped with a Kongsberg PROTECTOR Remote Weapons Station and Metravib PILLAR-5 acoustic gunshot detection system.
