AEW and UAS Figure in Deal
According to press reports, the Delhi government signed US$1.4 billion in aerospace contracts with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) during Israel President Reuven Rivlin’s recent six-day visit to India.
Officials close to the Air Force indicated that two EL/W-2090 airborne early warning and control systems were included in the agreement – valued at approximately $1 billion – and 10 armed HERON UAS, with a price of $400 million. Delivery of both could be completed within three years, according to officials.
Israel and India enjoy a strong and growing relationship, especially in defence and security. In the offing is a potential deal for an Israeli radar system to keep watch over the disputed border with Pakistan in Kashmir. Bilateral trade between the two nations has risen from $200 million per annum in the early 1990s to $5 billion today.
