Saab to deliver GIRAFFE 1X 3D radar to unnamed customer
Saab will be delivering its GIRAFFE 1X surface radar system to an unnamed customer, the company announced.
The GIRAFFE 1X is a short-range (75km) 3D radar surveillance system that provides forces with early warning and the ability to detect and classify more than 100 different targets simultaneously. This is facilitated by its 3D active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, featuring the latest in radar technology, including gallium nitride (GaN) circuits.
It is a lightweight system with a small footprint, and can therefore be used as a mobile and deployable asset, transported on a pick-up truck-sized vehicle, by helicopter or towed on a trailer, or as a fixed asset, installed on a building or a mast or integrated into a suitable vehicle. As such it is a key asset for short-range surveillance and Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD).
“This GIRAFFE1X contract further underlines Saab’s position as a supplier of world-leading protection against a wide range of air threats. Saab’s new generation of highly mobile surface radars is what defence forces around the world are asking for,” says Anders Linder, Head of Surface Radar Solutions within Saab Business Area Surveillance.
